Discovering Atomix: A Unique Korean Culinary Experience in Manhattan

Atomix, located in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood, is a 14-seat tasting menu restaurant that offers a unique Korean culinary experience. Run by chef Junghyun ‘JP’ Park and his wife, co-owner, and manager Ellia, Atomix showcases the best of New Korean Cuisine through fermentation techniques and exquisite presentation. In this blog, we explore Atomix’s menu, the chef’s background, and the restaurant’s concept and name.

The Concept and Experience at Atomix

Atomix is a fine-dining restaurant that offers a 10-course tasting menu based on New Korean Cuisine. The restaurant is designed with a single U-shaped counter that can accommodate 14 diners. Each dish is meticulously crafted using fermentation techniques and is served with an individual card that lists the dish’s name, ingredients, origin, and meaning. The beautifully designed space and the attention to detail make dining at Atomix a unique culinary experience.

The Chef and Co-Owner: Junghyun ‘JP’ Park

Born and raised in Seoul, JP Park trained at high-profile restaurants in the UK, US, Australia, and South Korea, including The Ledbury in London, Cutler & Co. in Melbourne, and Jungsik Dang in Seoul. It was at Jungsik that he was introduced to New Korean Cuisine. JP worked as chef de cuisine at Jungsik in New York, where he led the restaurant to receive its second Michelin star. In 2016, he opened his first solo project, the family-style sharing restaurant Atoboy, with Ellia. In 2018, they opened Atomix together.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name Atomix comes from the ancient Korean word for ‘gift.’ For JP and Ellia, Atomix is their way of giving the world a gift through their culinary creations. The name also reflects the restaurant’s concept of presenting each dish as a gift, with a carefully designed card that adds to the overall dining experience.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

JP and Ellia’s partnership extends beyond their personal relationship; it is the foundation of Atomix’s success. JP’s skills in the kitchen and Ellia’s expertise in managing the front of house create a seamless dining experience for guests. Their teamwork and dedication to delivering a standout culinary experience have earned them the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award 2022.

Award-Winning Restaurant: Ranked Number 33 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants

In addition to its unique concept and exceptional culinary experience, Atomix has also received critical acclaim. The restaurant was ranked number 33 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2021, a prestigious recognition in the culinary world. This accolade further reinforces Atomix’s position as a standout restaurant that offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
